Gary Con is the annual convention dedicated to the memory of Dungeons and Dragons founder Gary Gygax. Founders and Legends is a one-time convention commemorating the 50th year of Dungeons and Dragons which was first published in 1974. Both conventions will be run back-to-back at The Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin which was the birthplace of Dungeons and Dragons.

Title: Introducing and Using TTRPGs as Educators
Enter "The Well" with other educators using TTRPGs with their students. This university educator has adapted the Advanced Fighting Fantasy intro adventure into an experience to onboard students new to our wonderful hobby. As you crawl through the dungeon with quickly generated characters, be prepared to discuss how you run your club or school activity using TTRPGs both old-school and modern.

I’ll be presenting the Advanced Fighting Fantasy introductory adventure in the way I present it to university students who are playing to help improve their English language which is not their native language.
I've condensed the Advanced Fighting Fantasy ruleset to get characters up and running in 5 minutes with character advancement mechanics designed to engage students in literacy development activities. The Fighting Fantasy system is a 2d6 system with simple and fun gameplay mechanics which focuses students on describing their character's actions, intentions and motivations. In addition, I will be adding group discussion questions so that participants can discuss how they run their TTRPG activities in their educational contexts. Be ready to discuss your history with TTRPGs, the game system you use, your procedures for onboarding students, your successes in using TTRPGs with students as well as challenges you would like input on from other educators. The event is the same at both conventions. I'll also be available at both conventions to discuss our experiences using TTRPGs in educational contexts and demonstrate the system in the Open Gaming areas when not volunteering to help out at the conventions.
